Autodesk® Malaysia Design Competition (AMDC)

Year 2010, 2011,2014

ISI was appointed as secretariat for two consecutive years for the Autodesk Malaysia Design Competition. The competition was opened to Public Higher Institution in Malaysia such as Government Universities, Community Colleges and Polytechnics and recognized by MOHE, MQA and JPA. The use of Autodesk® software products is mandatory. The design was judged based on the professional and skilful used of the software integrating several criteria including creativity and originality of design, green building and design principles that are consistent with the three selected themes, a) Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC): b) Manufacturing and Product (MID): and c) Media and Entertainment (M&E).

Program Pertandingan Memasyarakatkan Inovasi Pelajar IPT 2014 (MyINOVASI2014) is now open for entries. This innovation competition is a MOE flagship program to foster innovative and creative culture which indirectly would benefit Malaysia society. This competition is open to all higher education students in Malaysia-universities, university colleges, polytechnics, community colleges and Institute of Teachers Education.

This training program is specially prepared for the training of engineers currently serving the Road, Bridge, Drainage Corporation (RBDC) Khartoum State, Sudan. The RBDC recognises the need for continuous training and up skilling for its technical staff for capacity building, and hence to reduce dependence on outsourcing of outside expertise.

Programs Offered

The five (5) programs for each training session are:

  • GIS Application in Infrastructure 
  • Quality Assurance in Road Construction 
  • Bridges Maintenance 
  • Rating/ Inspection of Bridges 
  • Drainage System Design and Usage of Water Collection 

Besides the teaching/ lectures there will be technical visits to the relevant departments or agencies, and to project and construction sites in the course of the training. Direct observations on sites, reflection and discussion, and work presentation form part of the learning experience as well as trainee assessment.

Program Duration

The program consisting of five (5) separate modules will be conducted in the English Language. Each module will run for the duration of two (2) plus weeks at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia. The program trainers are qualified faculty members/professionals from the related fields of specialization.

Title: Research on Insulation, Energy Efficiency and Thermal Comfort Study in Hot-Humid Tropics with University of Hiroshima

This is a research on insulation, energy efficiency and thermal comfort study in hot-humid tropics, a collaboration between ISI, University of Hiroshima and Nichias Corporation, Japan with the latter being the sponsor.

ISI had received a fund of JPY8.8 million (USD88,915.00) from Nichias Corporation Japan, to be utilised in the year 2013 and 2014. The bulk of the allocation was for construction cost while JPY600,000.00 (USD6,000.00) from the allocation was to be utilised as scholarships and JPY200,000.00 (USD2,000.00) for consumable items. An additional budget of JPY4.9 million for constructing the experimental houses in UTM JB Campus for the research has been received. Prof. Dr Mohd Hamdan Ahmad is currently the leader of the project together with Dr Muhammad Tetsu Kubota from University of Hiroshima.

The construction of the house is completed. The experimental house was launched and attended by the representative from the President of Nichias Corporation Japan Mr Toshiyuki Takei, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Ahmad Fauzi bin Ismail and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (development) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
