Kuching, 2 October 2024 – The recent seminar on Geospatial Approach for Carbon Stock Mapping and Marine Cadastre, held at the Merdeka Palace Hotel and Suites in Kuching, Sarawak, on 1 & 2 October 2024, was a landmark event that showcased the transformative potential of geospatial technologies in addressing pressing environmental challenges.
Participants delved into the latest methods for assessing and monitoring carbon stocks, as well as the importance of marine cadastre for sustainable coastal management. Experts from various fields, including the Forest Department Sarawak and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, shared their knowledge and insights on geospatial applications, such as remote sensing, GIS analysis, and spatial modeling.
The seminar covered a wide range of topics, including the latest advancements in forest carbon legislation in Sarawak, an in-depth exploration of carbon stock sequestration, forest carbon stocks, and IPCC guidelines, innovative approaches to forest carbon measurement and monitoring, the role of geospatial technology in assessing forest biomass and carbon stock mapping, the application of mobile and airborne LiDAR data for individual tree census in a plot level, individual tree above ground biomass (AGB) and above ground carbon stock estimation using geospatial approach, upscaling of forest above ground carbon stock density (ACD) mapping using remote sensing satellite imagery, and a comprehensive introduction to marine cadastre.
