Description

This is a research on insulation, energy efficiency and thermal comfort study in hot-humid tropics, a collaboration between ISI, University of Hiroshima and Nichias Corporation, Japan with the latter being the sponsor.

ISI had received a fund of JPY8.8 million (USD88,915.00) from Nichias Corporation Japan, to be utilised in the year 2013 and 2014. The bulk of the allocation was for construction cost while JPY600,000.00 (USD6,000.00) from the allocation was to be utilised as scholarships and JPY200,000.00 (USD2,000.00) for consumable items. An additional budget of JPY4.9 million for constructing the experimental houses in UTM JB Campus for the research has been received. Prof. Dr Mohd Hamdan Ahmad is currently the leader of the project together with Dr Muhammad Tetsu Kubota from University of Hiroshima.

The construction of the house is completed. The experimental house was launched and attended by the representative from the President of Nichias Corporation Japan Mr Toshiyuki Takei, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Ahmad Fauzi bin Ismail and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (development) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
