Johor Bahru, 10 Januari 2018 - Sesi menandatangani MoU antara ISI dan MBJB bagi Pelan Tindakan Masyarakat Rendah Karbon Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru 2025.

ISI diwakili oleh Pengarah Eksekutif, Prof Madya Dr Syed Ahmad Iskandar Syed Ariffin Syed Iskandar Syed Iskandar Ariffin dan Low Carbon Society UTM diwakili Prof Dr Ho Chin Siong. 

Majlis dipengerusikan oleh Tuan Haji Jalil Tasliman, Timbalan Pengarah Perancangan Pembangunan, Bahagian Rancangan Pemajuan, Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru. 

Wednesday 10th January 2018: 31 students and two faculty members from Kansas University (KU), Lawrence, United States of America participated in Malaysia Architectural Study Tour organized by Institut Sultan Iskandar UTM (ISI) from 3 January 2018 to 9 January 2018.

The tour is part of a Kansas University Study Abroad program, which involves three countries - Singapore, Malaysia and Japan. While in Malaysia, ISI has prepared a ‘short and sweet’ 7 days 6 nights program that covers Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Perak. The excursion includes visits of architecture that are award winning and iconic, to the traditional and low costs. Among the highlights are Petronas Twin Tower, Mesiniaga Tower, The Troika, The Capers, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Arc Rimbayu, National Mosque, Bamboo Playhouse, Lantern Hotel, OBYU Tower, PAM Centre, Penghulu Seman House, Badan Warisan and many more. Other significant places in the visit list are Lake Garden, China Town and Batu Caves. The tour also features Malaysia’s prominent regionalist architect, Ar Jimmy Lim who will share his ‘Tropical Laboratory’ ideas, and the implementation in his regionally rooted contemporary houses.

A welcoming luncheon was held in Denai house of Ar Razin Mahmood in Johor Bahru. The warm ceremony was attended by Dean of Faculty of Built Environment, Head of Architecture Department, ISI Executive Director, and ISI Deputy Director. A farewell lunch was held in the week after in UTM KL. The tour ended in a stylish dinner at 360 Revolving Restaurant of KL Tower. ISI KL head of division, Associate Professor Dr Gurupiah Mursib said, the program strengthens university-industry ties and is a catalyst for global agenda, thus, such similar program will be extended to other universities around the world.

Laman Topika, UTM Johor Bahru, 31 Disember 2017 - Pesta Durian ISI 2017 telah diadakan menutup tirai tahun 2017.

Majlis ini bertujuan mengeratkan lagi silaturahim diantara rakan penyelidik dan perunding setelah berpenat lelah dengan penglibatan dalam pelbagai aktiviti yang telah dianjurkan sepanjang tahun ini samada projek perundingan atau penyelidikan. Kehadiran Naib Canselor UTM Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid bin Omar turut memeriahkan Pesta Durian ISI 2017.


On 9 November 2017, our Executive Director, Associate Professor Dr Syed Ahmad Iskandar Syed Ariffin presented the results of the Malaysia Syariah Index (ISM) research in Environmental and Infrastructure Development in the Maqasid Syariah Executive Dialogue Session at the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government (KPKT), Putrajaya.

Head of Sustainability Unit in ISI, Dr Irina Safitri Zen was invited as a speaker in the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) and Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Green Cities Conference: Leveraging Regional Cooperation and Integration for Cities Network in ASEAN on 5-6 September 2017 in Melaka. The conference organised by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Green Growth Asia (GGA). The title of Dr Irina’s presentation was “Campus Living Lab-Accelerating the Green Cities Initiatives”. The presentation gave the opportunity for Dr Irina to share insights on how green campus in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) functions as living lab in accelerating the green cities initiatives. Three other invited speakers were Prof. Dr Ir Shamsul Rizal, Vice Chancellor of Syiah Kuala University, Indonesia, Asst. President Dr Korn Sornlertlumvanich from Prince of Songkla University, Thailand and Mr Thiagarajan Nadesan, Head of Education and Markets WWF-Malaysia who presented their speech related to the themes Green Campus-A Learning Center for the City.
