On 9 November 2017, our Executive Director, Associate Professor Dr Syed Ahmad Iskandar Syed Ariffin presented the results of the Malaysia Syariah Index (ISM) research in Environmental and Infrastructure Development in the Maqasid Syariah Executive Dialogue Session at the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government (KPKT), Putrajaya.

Head of Sustainability Unit in ISI, Dr Irina Safitri Zen was invited as a speaker in the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) and Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Green Cities Conference: Leveraging Regional Cooperation and Integration for Cities Network in ASEAN on 5-6 September 2017 in Melaka. The conference organised by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Green Growth Asia (GGA). The title of Dr Irina’s presentation was “Campus Living Lab-Accelerating the Green Cities Initiatives”. The presentation gave the opportunity for Dr Irina to share insights on how green campus in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) functions as living lab in accelerating the green cities initiatives. Three other invited speakers were Prof. Dr Ir Shamsul Rizal, Vice Chancellor of Syiah Kuala University, Indonesia, Asst. President Dr Korn Sornlertlumvanich from Prince of Songkla University, Thailand and Mr Thiagarajan Nadesan, Head of Education and Markets WWF-Malaysia who presented their speech related to the themes Green Campus-A Learning Center for the City.

On 25 September 2017, AP Dr Syed Ahmad Iskandar Syed Ariffin attended in full session on Heritage Mapping for Royal Towns Malaysia. This research was funded by National Heritage Department and organised by KALAM, UTM. Dr Syed has served National Heritage Department continuously as the member of the Expert Committee on National Heritage for the past 10 years.

AP Dr Syed Ahmad Iskandar Syed Ariffin attends in a 3-day workshop to revise the Manual of Accreditation for Architecture Programme, and on to prepare the new Manual of Accreditation for Interior Design Programme. He is a senior member of Council of Architectural Accreditation & Education (CAAEM), also known as Majlis Akreditasi Program Senibina Malaysia (MAPS). Previously he led a team of professional and academics to help Board of Architects Malaysia develop and publish The Manual of Accreditation of Architecture Programme (2013), a very important policy outlining the standards of architecture degree programme in the country. The workshop was organised by the Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM) from 22- 24 September 2017 at the Dorsett Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
