Skudai, 19 January 2018 - The MIT-UTM Malaysia Sustainable Cities Program (MIT-UTM MSCP) Open Lecture was held on 18th January 2018 at Galeri Alam Bina, Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. As usual practice, the program will conduct a Practicum study tour every January involving MIT and UTM Postgraduate students. The Practicum is used to formulate research questions or agenda that the MIT UTM MSCP scholar will adapt and work on their own for four to five months while based in UTM. The Practicum and Research output also emphasized questions likely to produce “actionable findings” relevant across the developing world. Open Lecture is a platform for the Scholars to share their research and initial findings UTM and local communities before they move to MIT and embark on the second phase of their contract finalizing academic paper and teaching videos.
Launched in September 2013, the MIT-UTM Sustainable Cities Program (MSCP) is a five-year effort between UTM and MIT and supported by the Malaysian government. It is aimed at promoting Malaysia's sustainable practices and improving the quality of instructional materials available to college and university faculty around the world about sustainable city development.
