Work Program with Roads, Bridges & Drainage Corporation (RBDC) in Khartoum, Sudan

The Road, Bridges and Drainages Corporation (RBDC) in Khartoum State is wholly owned by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation, offering state of the art construction of roads, bridges, and drainage and also provide continuous maintenance. RBDC is responsible in forming the partnership with investors and contractors to construct the infrastructure of the Khartoum State and all other services required to facilitate and support development activities. The objectives of the program are to conduct a technical training based on a customised program that is appropriate with the technical background and working experience of the trainees and to provide the opportunity for the trainees to obtain useful insight on the practices of infrastructure planning and development in Malaysia. The training package encompasses of GIS Application in Infrastructure, Quality Control of Road Construction, Bridges Maintenance, Rating of Bridges and Drainage System Design, Usage of Water Collection.

Kansas University Study Abroad Program

Year: 2013

ISI in collaboration with Department of Architecture, Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia hosted 13 students and 2 faculty member from Kansas University, Lawrence, United States of America from 3 January 2013 to 17 January 2013 for a field study. This is part of a Kansas University Study Abroad program and adopted a theme ‘Two–Week Field Study: Experiencing Multicultural Malaysia through Architecture’. Itinerary of the visit covers 7 states in both West and East Coast regions, particularly Nusajaya in Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya, Perak, Terengganu and Melaka. Excursion to the variety of award winnings architecture is included in the visit. Most importantly, they conducted a study on how to revitalize a traditional urban quarter in Kuala Terengganu. This was a collaborative study undertook by Kansas University students and UTM architecture students as part of this collaboration.

EXCOM Programme of Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)

Year: 2009, 2011, 2013

Engineering students from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway have been visiting Malaysia as part of their final year undergraduate curriculum-Construction in Developing Countries (EXCOM). Excom is a yearly programme at NTNU where students voted for the countries they choose to visit. Malaysia was first selected in 2009 with Institute Sultan Iskandar as host. Excom comprises of a one-week technical visit to Malaysia hosted by ISI in collaboration with the construction industry. The focus of interest for the visit was on the engineering aspects of highway construction, water treatment and buildings.

National Innovation Competition, MyInovasi2012 for Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia

ISI was appointed as Secretariat to MyInovasi2012 Competition. MyInovasi2012, an undergraduate student innovation flagship competition under the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and open to all University, Polytechnics and Community College. The competition was divided into two levels – zone and national. For the zone level, the competition was concluded in a two-day event called ‘Kemuncak Zon’ on 1-2 October 2012 at all five zones. ISI received a total of 1474 entrants from 71 institutions participated in this competition. The culmination of the national level competition called ‘Kemuncak Nasional’ was held on 28-29 November 2012 at Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi, Putrajaya. A total of 60 groups qualified to present their work and to win a total grant of RM77,000.00. Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) won the main grant prize of RM50,000.00.

Autodesk® Malaysia Design Competition (AMDC)

Year 2010, 2011,2014

ISI was appointed as secretariat for two consecutive years for the Autodesk Malaysia Design Competition. The competition was opened to Public Higher Institution in Malaysia such as Government Universities, Community Colleges and Polytechnics and recognized by MOHE, MQA and JPA. The use of Autodesk® software products is mandatory. The design was judged based on the professional and skilful used of the software integrating several criteria including creativity and originality of design, green building and design principles that are consistent with the three selected themes, a) Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC): b) Manufacturing and Product (MID): and c) Media and Entertainment (M&E).
